Metropolitan Health Services
Promentor has extensive experience of engagement to assess the efficiency and operating process of 20+ metropolitan health services across every state from VIC to NSW, QLD, ACT, TAS, WA and SA.
This experience includes health process assessments for both private and public hospitals, and supporting co-located health services.
We have implemented change management and reform programs with relevant leadership staff within these structures and provided post- change assessments.
The following is a sample of activity undertaken with a Victorian metropolitan health service:
Review and Improve | Our Results |
---|---|
Pre-admission process | Increase patient throughput allowing more patients to be seen without risks to safe care delivery |
Theatre booking process | 30% increase in theatre utilisation |
Turnaround time for sterile instruments and consumables | Optimised resource capacity and timing of the Central Sterile Supply Department |
Use of day and inpatient theatre services | Decreased patients on surgical wait lists Decreases in same-day surgical cancellations |
Surgical directorate financial performance | Identified revenue opportunities for the department |
Rural Health Services
Promentor has undertaken 10+ rural health services projects across VIC, NSW, QLD and SA. These systems often work with minimal resources, making efficiency a key factor in success.
We often review and improve multiple processes for rural health services. For example, after implementing our recommendations a health service client in Victoria experienced:
- Improved flow of patients through the ED
- Increased theatre utilisation
- Reduced patient waiting lists
- Increased bed capacity
- Improved discharge planning
Remedy Excessive Costs
Promentor has a strong record of working with government health departments to collaborate with health services to respond quickly to rapid deterioration and dysfunction of health service delivery and cost blowouts, particularly when impacted by unplanned factors such as ambulance ramping, disease outbreaks and overtime.
We have assessed, triaged and improved operations for several health service networks that experienced duress in VIC, QLD and SA.
Commissioning New Hospitals
Promentor have deep experience in the specialised area of pre-opening audits of new hospital builds. This service helps government to save millions by preventing problems before they commence.
We are the only service provider in Australia with expertise for testing and validating processes of major new hospitals before they open their doors to the public.
Our unique pre-opening audit service ensures problems and dysfunction are avoided before a hospital opens. This is particularly important when contractors are appointed under PPP arrangements to manage nursing and support staff in a hospital and systems are not aligned.
Ambulance Ramping
Promentor has extensive experience working with government health departments, hospitals and health services to review and improve patient discharge procedures – to address issues of ambulance ramping at hospitals and excessive lengths of stay in emergency.
By improving bed utilisation, removing blockages to information flow, and other initiatives, we help remedy the roll-on effects that impact emergency care and ambulance ramping.
What causes under-performance in healthcare?
The healthcare sector is facing a myriad of issues – from limited funding and rising costs, to skills shortages and increased competition from new patient care services.
A recent survey found that almost half (41%) of clinicians rate patient length of stay as a key area to address for improved performance.
Other opportunities include physician productivity (22%), premium pay optimisation (16%), operating room utilisation (15%) and organisational structure redesign (13%).
Many of these challenges can be overcome with a thorough review of healthcare operations. Promentor have specialised experience with healthcare performance reviews. We assist leaders in key areas such as:
- Improving patient flow
- Optimising resource management
- Communicating change so that it is implemented effectively
